The Ban by MCMC towards NTV7’s Live Telecast of the MCA Deputy Presidential Debate

The decision by the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to ban the live telecast of the MCA deputy presidential debate over NTV7 last night has come as a great shock.

One would have thought that following the recent debates on television involving no less a figure as Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that there would be no issue of allowing last night's debate to be televised.

Even Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's debate with Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon was televised live.

Malaysians have shown they are receptive to this new political culture.

A new level of maturity had arrived in which political rivals can debate issues in a sober and competitive fashion.

There is no reason why the debate involving MCA candidates should not be allowed.

There seems to be black hands at work behind the scene.

By banning the live telecast, MCMC has robbed Malaysians and not just Chinese Malaysians, of an opportunity to get to know what candidates for a senior post of a major political party stand for.

It would have offered Malaysians a glimpse at how these candidates perform, and listen to what they have to offer.

Crucially, delegates to this weekend's MCA elections would have had a chance to listen to the candidates before deciding on who they should vote for.

I call on the MCMC to allow the debate to be shown without any further adue.

The MCMC must also give an answer as to why they have banned the live telecast of the debate.

I fully agree with you. The MCMC behaved in the silly and unimaginative manner that we have come to expect from bureaucrats. But I also can't help wondering if there was any "sabotage" by other candidates who have the benefit of ministerial influence.

I can't understand how they can ban it either? How can some of the things that were said be considered unacceptable?

datuk seri , the minister in charge and the tv station is government control entity. In particularly UMNO. looks like they do not want to go on with live debate - just afraid that UMNO has to follow suit and hold live debates since their party election is also around the corner. time for MCA to own a TV channel?

Dear Dr. Chua,

One thing that i can think of is because both of you are not in the cabinet. As none of you are the minister, why should they give both of you face. If OKC participated, the result may be different. Forget about it, just concentrate on the polling, you still stand a chance. I support you. God will bless you too.

The ideal change for MCA would be Dr Chua Jui Meng as President, and Dr Chua Soi Lek as Vice-President. Two very capable and intelligent persons. If rationale could prevail over "money politics", then this will happen. Unfortunately, your opponents have the backing of the "people in power and the businessmen". It is a well known fact that if Dr Chua Soi Lek debates with Donald Lim, Dr Chua Soi Lek will come out the "winner". It is also predicted that if Dr. Chua Jui Meng debates with Ong Tee Keat, Dr. Chua Jui Meng will come out tops ... so probably this was why Ong Tee Keat did not turn up too.

Cheers

My personal conclusion is that MCA needs to realize where actually do they stand. Debates without consultation and without define question is a no no. MCA only do what need to be done not what they want to be done.NO talking without permission.I am sorry i have to say this. Why do debate have to be edited?

Not surprise at all, MCA justed subscripted to some of UMNO know how.

OKC is pretty silence on this.

These tactics are nothing new to the oppositions but it is new to you.

Should you accept to become MCA no. 2. dr. chua, you must dismantle these dirty tactics and injustices in your party.

So, you menang ker tak?

Anyway, such nonsensical things can only happen in Malaysia.. MCMC is not the only authority that loves to play "pilih kasih". All other government, semi, demi, quartet government agencies are same same la. So, no need to shock or rock. Like the chinese saying lor.. 'GET USED TO IT, MA SI EH SAI LOR'

Did OKT or OTK or OKC raised any objections to the live televised debate?

The current leaders are all in denial but they are smart enough to use all the tricks up their sleeve to grab power by hiding behind UMNO.

I salute you, DRs Chua Soi Lek & also Jui Meng.

Good luck.
