KUALA LUMPUR: MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek pleaded with the party leadership to give him a chance to carry out his responsibilities.
Speaking to reporters after attending the party's disciplinary board hearing on his DVD sex scandal at the MCA headquarters here yesterday, he said there was an ongoing whispering campaign by "some people" to undermine his work as a MCA leader and as Barisan Nasional chief coordinator for Pakatan Rakyat-ruled states.
As an example, he said there were leaders who were concerned over his trips to meet with divisional and grassroots leaders nationwide.
"I need to meet them to strengthen the BN machinery and understand the problems faced by BN to enable me to file a report to the national BN leadership and bring it to their attention."
However, he refused to name those who were trying to stop his work.
"I have no other agenda. I've said I am not interested in becoming a minister so please don't speculate. There is no need to be suspicious of me.
"I have served the party for 24 years and I love MCA and BN.
"Maybe I love the party more than some MCA leaders and this may affect some people who don't like it."
It was called after Simpang Renggam division chief Eng Cheng Guan filed a complaint in May last year with the previous disciplinary panel headed by former deputy president, Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy, that Dr Chua had committed adultery and performed oral sex and the scandal had tarnished the party's image.
Dr Chua was caught on video having a tryst with a woman at a hotel in Johor last year.
He subsequently resigned from all his government and party posts.
He was elected as MCA deputy president at the party elections last October.
However, in a surprising move, Eng withdrew his complaint last week saying that he did not intend to pursue the case.
But the current board had decided to proceed with yesterday's hearing because the complaint had been accepted by the presidential council after it established there was a prima facie case.
Yesterday, Dr Chua arrived at the party's headquarters accompanied by two lawyers Cecil Abraham and Rishwuant Singh.
Party veterans Tan Sri Dr Sak Cheng Lam, Tan Sri Wong See Wah and Datuk Ho Lin Teck, who were invited by Dr Chua as his witnesses as they were members of the previous disciplinary panel, came at 2.15pm.
Chan did not turn up.
However, the veterans refused to speak to the press when they came out at 3.50pm.
He said Dr Sak told the board that the previous disciplinary panel had decided to stop hearing his (Dr Chua's) case when he resigned from all posts.
"However, the current board said no such record of the previous panel's decision exists."
He said he would accept whatever decision reached by the board and called for members to remain calm and keep working for the party and BN.
"I am optimistic by nature and am sure the board will make a fair decision as the public and members are looking at how they behave and act.
"It is not a question of a gesture but a question of being fair."
He said he received a lot of advice from members who urged him not to attend the hearing as the complainant had withdrawn the complaint.
"They pointed out that it's another attempt to bury me politically.
"However, I feel as a party leader and member, we must respect the institution of the party and obey orders."

you are now taking the fight (thai boxing) into the open. otk will surely grease himself thoroughly to avoid less chance of getting direct punches.
you have the silent majority's support as long as you stay focus. never waver!
Dr Chua,
Seems like they are still trying to push this case thru and have you removed from MCA. The question is if the managed to do that, what is your plan? How is it possible that there are no records taken during last decision given on this case and close file?
Cartoon again?
Dear Dr Chua,
Good day!
Your kind press statement quoted:
"I have no other agenda. I've said I am not interested in becoming a minister so please don't speculate. There is no need to be suspicious of me."
Well ! it is always a great suspicious among the greedy and corrupted warlords in MCA and UMNO when you are too close with PM. They felt you are the greatest enemy in BN than any Opposition leader who can influence and expose their corrupt deeds and bad faiths to PM when you are currently holding a strong BN position.
Yes! Malaysians agreed with your second statement that "they pointed out that it's another attempt to bury me politically." It is normal for their unethical political ways to bury any good politician who against their evil ways in holding power. Now you are a MCA Saint who dares to speak out against those BN demons. As such they wish to get rid of you using your past sex scandal weaknesses.
"However, I feel as a MCA party leader and member, we must respect the institution of the party and obey orders." said Dr Chua. Well, the Perak impasse and political turmoil caused by BN goons showed no respect and disobey orders of Fed & State Constitutions and people rights today. Malaysians are laughing out loud after reading your final coffin words.
Yes, it is timely Dr Chua should recall and reconsider the 5 good reasons why you should quit MCA /BN today. Will you ?
It is political murdering planning. Which is plotted to aim at Dr. Chua's political career to be destroyed. OTK has no more tactic to support his own premeditated plan of eliminating Dr. Chua. Before falling down, he tries to drag Dr.Chua to go down with him. What a venomous way of thinking?
But Dr. Chua present job is to retake the control of PR's states. Chua may become political enemy of both PR and MCA. Due his job is straightaway reporting to PM, MCA's morons are worrying his is too important than them, the MCA elites. OTK has never thought of that PM would take in Dr. Chua to be his chief national coordinator in BN. It is said that the job is as powerful as a minister has possessed.
Dear Dr. Chua,
The Police should have hauled up OTK long time ago. Nazib should have asked OTK to step aside as the President of MCA and a Minister.
If we should go down to the Police Station to report a theft,we will be the first to be detained and imprisoned. Why is this not happening to OTK?
This will certainly affect the image of MCA and BN.
As an observer of peace, I can state with utmost clarity that Tan Sri Dr. Chua Soi Lek is a good man.
I formally studied Public International Law, the United Nations Charter and etc. 16-17 years ago. It is what I will always love. I sure didn't study the OIC Charter and don't intend to.
Dr. Chua is a good man! He was my physician and the only one I know who gave sweets to his patients.
Yours sincerely,
