Greatest nonsense of all nonsense),显然已对翁派的指控大动肝火。

The MCA EGM

I just came back from a very short vacation. Upon returning, I travelled to Alor star on Tuesday and subsequently to Sabah just to get a feel on the reaction from MCA grassroots members and leaders.

Basically, they are unhappy with the leadership’s decision to sack me. They see this as a ruthless method to finish me off once and for all politically. That is the general consensus.

Meanwhile, my supporters who have initiated signature campaign to call for an EGM have started their work on Monday. By the time I am writing this, the signatures collected have already exceeded the 800 signatures required. I must say that the response is overwhelming. I wish to thank the grassroots leader who wants to see justice and fair play as well as democracy in the party.

Now, the question is that there are now 2 EGMs, one called by the central delegates as provided for by the constitution and the other one by the executive power vested on the president. If I am not wrong, this is the first time in 60 years of MCA history where a president exercises his power to call for EGM.

The agenda of the EGM initiated by the President is still unknown despite his announcement and notice to the secretary general since 31 August 2009. If the agenda is to endorse the investigation of the PKFZ, then this will be unprecedented. This is the case where the Minister brings his ministerial work and function to the political party for endorsement. It is like using a political party to do a referendum on the Minister’s responsibilities. This will set a very bad precedent in the country’s political development. Imagine if every Minister or President does that, bringing his or her ministerial work to party’s EGM, then the whole ministry work will be politicized. If that can be done, then the Minister of Health can also bring the H1N1 issue and its preventive measure to the party’s EGM for endorsement.

One can then postulate that the PM Najib can bring policy statements to UMNO and get it endorsed in the UMNO EGM and tell the rakyat that whatever he’s doing is backed by the UMNO.

In the same way, one should be bringing the teaching of Mathematics and Science, which is a bigger issue and the concern of every Chinese family into the EGM. Once this is approved in the EGM, what’s next? What happens if the Ministry of Education refused to accept what is endorsed in the EGM? Are we going on a direct confrontation?

One should not hide under their political party in their discharge of ministerial duty. Therefore, the PKFZ issue should not be politicized. It is the duty of the Minister of Transport and it is his duty to investigate the port and the abuse of power and corruption if there is any. The PM and the cabinet has endorsed the Ministry of Transport’s investigation of the PKFZ. Thus the notion that only the President dares to conduct an investigation of the PKFZ and that no one in BN is supporting him is misleading.

Since PM has tasked the Ministry of transport to investigate and to avoid any conflicting messages, it is only correct and proper that any matter on the PKFZ is handled by the Ministry of Transport. It is not a personal crusade. It is the responsibility of the Minister of Transport. It is not a party affair and definitely should not be a MCA EGM’s resolution.

Since we started the idea of the EGM first, it would be a better idea if the President could incorporate his resolution into our resolution. Our resolution is the reflection of the aspiration of the grassroots. The resolution for the EGM initiated by the President is still unknown. The grassroots’ wishes need to be respected if we want to restore democracy in the party. The EGM and the central delegates is the highest authority in a political party and if we want to stay united, we will have to listen to their will and wishes.

I am Sacked!

Today, I am partyless. I served MCA as a divisional chairman since 1985. On the 2nd January 2008 when I resigned from all party posts, I was still an MCA member. Today, I don’t even have a party. So, my position today is worst of than when I resigned on 2nd January 2008. I did not realize that MCA disciplinary board led by an aging lawyer have deemed fit to recommend me to be sacked 21 months after I have resigned from all party and government posts for the same reason as when I resigned in January 2008. If there is provision for sentencing of death physically, I am sure that the disciplinary board would have no hesitation in recommending me to face the gallows. The reason is obvious why I need to be sacked. Will my sacking boost up the image of the MCA? I have to assume that the President today is as clean and clear as crystal. Only time will tell.

Since last night, my phone has not stopped ringing. Today, I spend my time trying to read all the sms. Probably, this is to keep me occupied since I am now partyless. The press has not stopped harassing me. It is actually quite funny and fun.

My family and friends will be going away for a short holiday. I need to enjoy this partyless status. So friends, give me a chance to rest. People will be thinking that I will be working very hard, but as usual; I take everything in my stride. Hopefully I can live longer to see another day and another battle.

Press Statement by Datuk Seri Dr. Chua Soi Lek

Today, MCA Disciplinary Council recommended that I to be expelled from the MCA. The decision comes as no surprise because there has been a sustained attempt by the MCA President to subvert the wishes of the rank and file and end my political career.

But as a loyal party man, I have to abide by the decision of the Disciplinary Board and the Presidential Council. I am confident that MCA comrades will understand fully the events leading to the suspension and why the MCA leadership needs to keep me on the sidelines.

It is an open secret that those who are not on the same page with the MCA President are regarded as his enemies or a threat. These people are labelled as:

* Anti-MCA and out to destroy MCA;

* Gangsters;

* Cooperating with businessmen and taking money from them to topple him

The MCA President has outlined 3 main agenda for the party: Economic, Politics and Inter-racial Harmony. But in reality, it appears that his most important political agenda is to remove Chua Soi Lek.

Now that I have been suspended, I hope he can sleep well.

But not all of us have that luxury. For those of us who love the MCA, our work has just begun.

Today, it is not about Chua Soi Lek, neither it is about Ong Tee Keat. It is about MCA as the second largest component party of BN still drifting without direction and purpose.

It has been more than 16 months since the March 8 general election and 10 months since the last party election. But there has been little evidence of change.

There is no closing of ranks, no unity, morale is low and suspicion is the order of the day.

The Permatang Pasir by-election result is evidence of how far the party has slipped.

Comrades who love the party will come to realize that its time to stand up and unite to save the party. Otherwise, we will soon fade into oblivion.

I have confidence that MCA members will not let one man self-destroy the party. It will be a sad day for MCA that if we do not rise to the challenge of saving the party. Doing nothing is not an option; saving the party is the only way to move forward so that we can contribute to strengthen BN and together help to achieve One Malaysia.

-----------------------------

* “倒党”分子;
* 黑帮;
*

Back From Campaigning

Sorry dear readers for not doing any posting in the last one week. I spent 3 days campaigning in Permatang Pasir by election, and 2 days in Johor for functions which I have to officiate.

Meanwhile, I have chosen not to respond to personal attack launched by MCA President. I have a lot to say but I have chosen to remain silent. I can understand why my president is hysterical. I thought by remaining silent would enabled him to concentrate his ongoing battle with Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and his allegation of RM10million. Obviously, the MCA President as usual, thinks that he can do no wrong. If I choose to respond then he will continue to allege that he is facing attack from all fronts, both within and outside the party. The President was so paranoid about his purported enemy that MCA leaders and members that have gathered at the Johor MCA headquarters in Jalan Segget, Johor Bahru were reported as ‘gangsters’ out to ‘ambush’ him.

With regards to his legal battle with Datuk Seri Tiong, I can only wish him good luck. I have said it in the last MCA Central Committee meeting that it is best to let the police, MACC and now the court to decide who is telling the truth. I had supported President to lodge a police report and seek legal redress, but I objected to the party itself getting involved. It is unfair to get the party involved, since the alleged RM10miliion never go into the party’s coffer and hence it becomes a personal problem for the President. It is up to President to defend his honour.

I will choose an appropriate time to defend myself against baseless allegations leveled against me by the President.

Soi Lek asks Tee Keat to keep MCA out of tiff with Tiong PETALING JAYA, Aug 19 — MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek has asked the party pre

From Malaysian Insider, 19.08.09

By Lee Wei Lian

PETALING JAYA, Aug 19 — MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek has asked the party president and Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat not to involve the party in a possible legal battle with Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, saying that it is "his personal problem".

Tiong is CEO of Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd (KDSB), the main developer of the scandal-hit Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) and whose company is under investigation by Ong's ministry. Tiong had dropped a bombshell last week when he claimed that he had made a RM10 million donation to Ong for MCA party purposes.

Ong has since denied the allegation and threatened legal action though Tiong has refused to retract his statement. The MCA president also met with division leaders over the weekend and emerged with their backing.

The MCA central committee, which met in Johor Baru yesterday, made a decision to support Ong in his bid to clear his name and to lodge a police report and seek legal redress.

Chua told reporters at a press conference at a hotel in Petaling Jaya last night that while he had supported Ong in making a police report and in taking legal action, he had objected to the party itself getting involved.

"I expressed support to sue Tiong but I do not believe the party should be involved in it. It is a personal problem. Only the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission know the truth," he said before chairing a meeting with other Barisan Nasional component parties. "I support the president in seeking legal redress but not dragging the party into it."

Chua also expressed his doubts about Ong's "conspiracy theory" about a RM100 million campaign to destroy MCA.

The Chinese media had reported that Ong told division leaders that there was a concerted effort to amass RM100 million to move a vote of no-confidence against him at an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) and that should the effort fail, there will be an attempt to form a new Chinese-based political party to replace MCA.

"The conspiracy theory has no basis," Chua scoffed. "If you say there is a RM100 million campaign to topple him, the message is that MCA members only look for money — no money no talk. At the end of the day, people support politicians based on their performance."

He also said that he thinks the party is at its lowest point in its history and if the "internal conflicts" continue, the party may not survive past the next general election.

"The voters will replace MCA because we are not performing and involved with internal conflicts. We are elected to serve the people and not politics," he said.

When asked about the reaction from central committee members when he objected to the party being involved in Ong's bid to clear his name, he said that "very few people" were with him but that it was "expected".

He also cited a case to reporters of "a senior MCA leader" who was arrested in Singapore, charged and jailed, likely referring to former MCA president Tan Koon Swan who was found guilty of criminal breach of trust.

"We should let the law take its course," he said.

Ong had built up an image of being clean and transparent but his reputation is now in tatters following Tiong's allegations.

His position as party president is considered shaky with Chua's supporters expected to push ahead with plans to call for an EGM to remove him.

Ong himself was reported as saying that he was not the president that was favoured by Umno, the dominant party in the Barisan Nasional coalition, and is in danger of losing his transport minister job ever since pushing for the PKFZ to be investigated.

When asked by reporters to comment on statements issued by certain MCA leaders asking members not to sign any petitions calling for an EGM, Chua replied that it was an "insult" to the members' political maturity.

Permatang Pasir By-Election

This will be the 8th by-election since the 308 general election. There are 20,350 voters in the Permatang Pasir constituency. The Malays account for 72.3 percent, Chinese 26 percent, Indian and others 1.7 percent. This seat has been traditionally an opposition seat. In the 2008 election, PAS won with a majority of 5,433 votes.

For BN, it is not going to be an easy battle since this state seat is situated within the Parliamentary seat of Permatang Pauh. Anwar’s influence would be overwhelming. Losing the seat is more likely than winning. Hence, winning will be a bonus for BN. In fact, to be able to reduce the majority of 5,433 votes won by the previous PAS candidate will be a moral booster for BN.

UMNO’s choice of candidate will be crucial. If the candidate is accepted by most members of the division, then I am sure UMNO members will be more committed to ensure that the election machinery function effectively. This is often one of the biggest problems in BN, be it UMNO, MCA, MIC or Gerakan where the choice of candidate is crucial in facing the election. Often the lack of support by own party members can prove to be fatal in the election, more so in the by-election. When members know that the results of the by-election will not tilt the balance of political power within the state, then total commitment by BN members may be lacking.

Of course PAS members will be in high spirit in facing this by-election, not forgetting that this is their stronghold. However, the drastic reduction of the majority votes obtained by the PAS candidate in Manik Urai, Kelantan could have unnerved the confidence within the party. Hence, PAS’ party members may even work harder to prove their point that they have the support of the Malay community.

The 5,600 non-Malay voters will be crucial in this coming by-election. This is another classical example that when the Malay votes are split, then the non-Malay votes, if they are substantial, will be crucial to the victory of any party. BN will then have to pursue what we call a middle path, catering to the needs of all community. This politics of balancing can be a very delicate job, which not many will understand. The opposition will have the advantage of talking since they do not have to practice what they preach, by virtue of the fact that they are not in power at the federal level. The recent open spat between PAS and DAP is a good example of politics in action at the state level. When each party has its own agenda and having to cater to its own supporters, then open clashes become inevitable between the parties. The sale of alcohol is totally blown out of proportion by PAS and DAP. State level politics permit such open quarrel as it will not tear the nation apart. When confronted with bigger issues and if it is divisive, then the nation may be held to ransom by the political parties involved.

When chairing a few of the BN’s coordinating meeting in Selangor, I notice that there have been a lot of complaints that there is mushrooming of entertainment outlets within Selangor, especially in the Klang valley. The usual complaint is that the cyber cafes and pubs are situated near schools. This has caused a lot of dissatisfaction among the people. I am sure a lot of PAS leaders are against their own state government for approving many of these entertainment outlets. Wee Choo Keong’s outburst against the DAP EXCO member is very enlightening to us.

In the Permatang Pasir by-election, national issue will overwhelm local issues. How national issues are going to be played out will depend on the two main political parties, BN and PR.

Wildlife Protection in Malaysia

Of late, Malaysia became well known internationally for the wrong reasons:

1) For purported human trafficking;

We read in the report that in fact a tourist guide was charged in court for trafficking some women from China. Before that, we read of cases of trafficking involving Bangladeshis who were caught off the coast of Johor. There will be many more cases that goes unreported because no one is arrested. Since it is a lucrative trade, there will always be rooms for corruption.

2) The convicted wildlife smuggler Anson Wong who is dubbed as ‘Pablo Escobar’ of wildlife trafficking is actually a Malaysian, operating from Penang. The response from the director general is a typical example of a very layback officer, saying that it is an old story. Whether it is old or new, it does not speaks well of the Wildlife Department of Malaysia since the conviction of Anson Wong was due to the effort of US rather than Malaysia’s Wildlife Department.

A few years ago, I remember reading clearly that when this gentleman was highlighted in the press with Kuala Lumpur as the hub for wildlife trafficking; there was strong denial by the Wildlife Department. . Penangite Anson Wong was subsequently arrested following a sting operation set up by the US authority. This does not augur well for the image of the Malaysia Wildlife Department when trafficking occurs right under our nose and it needs the US authority to arrest the criminal.

In fact, the government should not stop at the conviction of Anson Wong. They should do house cleaning within the Wildlife Department so that whatever networking established for the smuggling of wildlife can be wiped out.

Malaysia is regarded as one of the 12 countries with mega bio-diversities with rich flora and fauna. However, if we are not careful in managing our forests and wildlife, then our children and definitely grandchildren will only be seeing wildlife in the zoo. Ever since monitor lizard and the anteater called pangolin suddenly become exotic food, you can see that their numbers have dropped dramatically. My house in Batu Pahat is situated at the foot of Gunung Soga. It is a protected forest. It is not surprising then to see snakes, iguana and even anteaters making its way in front of my house. I have been staying there for about 15 years. Of late, I hardly see anyone of them. There are professionals who go around capturing iguanas and anteaters since the meat fetch very good price in China and Taiwan. Before long, I won’t be surprised that the iguanas and anteaters become extinct.

I fully agree that the Wildlife Department is grossly understaffed. A lot of its staff members regard it as a job to earn a living. There is no passion in looking after the wildlife. To compound the problem since the wildlife is valuable in the black market, then one can imagine that the wildlife smuggler would do all he can to bribe his way through. Our Wildlife Protection Act is totally inadequate and ineffective. The fine is too low to be a deterrent. Unless the Act is reviewed with mandatory jail sentence and even whipping, wildlife trafficking will continue.
