JOHOR BARU: The DAP has been relying on the same political tactic to gain support for more than 30 years by criticising and issuing statements on various issues but which yield no results, said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
He said the opposition party would exploit various issues, especially over the funding for Chinese schools.
“They (DAP) would claim that the MCA had no influence despite being Barisan Nasional’s second largest component party if there was no allocation for Chinese schools.
“However, if the Government actually allocates the funds, the DAP would then claim that the MCA had bowed down to its demands,” he told reporters after surveying the construction of SJKC Thorburn in Mutiara Rini here yesterday.
Dr Chua said as an example the DAP’s claim that allocations for SJKC Thorburn were approved after the opposition party raised the matter.
Quashing such claims, he said the MCA, the state government and the public had donated funds for the school’s construction which cost RM6.5mil.
“Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin recently agreed to set aside a RM3mil allocation.
“The construction is on schedule and expected to be completed by the end of the year,” he said, adding that the school would have about 40 classrooms which could initially accommodate 500 students.
Dr Chua said a topic that the DAP liked to exploit was alleging that donations by the Chinese community to their schools was a form of “second income tax”.
He said problems relating to Chinese schools needed everyone’s cooperation, including the Education Ministry, school board and the rakyat.
“Some 90% of the board members in Chinese schools are from the MCA. These people are working hard to look for donations, especially among MCA supporters,” he said, adding that should there be any form of “secondary taxation”, it affected MCA members and not those from the DAP.

In politics, at times it is just like a sport game, once you have given the opportunity for the opposing side to score, then the goal scored will be against your side.The allocation of funds for all schools should have been fair and just. Noting that such administrative discrepancy, then it is the duty of government which you are in to rectify. Perhaps, the government must administer fairly, and then the issue exploited will be of non issue. The objective is to serve the public with Justice and Fairness. If the public complains, the government must listen carefully and deliver the needs of the public, not just ignore them. The Chinese Primary Schools and Tamil Primary Schools were not well taken care of for too many years despite you and MIC were in the government too. The burden to rectify this is totally yours and also MIC's.Solve the issue and then DAP will not have any issue to exploit. My humble view. Peter Leow
