BIDOR: The MCA fully agrees with the continuation of the affirmative action policy but it should be redefined, said party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
He said affirmative action should be based on needs and merit.
“We fully agree with the Prime Minister that it should be redefined so it will not be hijacked by some people,” he told reporters after attending a dinner organised by Bidor Han Chiang Association yesterday.
Dr Chua said if affirmative action was based on needs and merit, the poor would continue to receive help.
“A good example will be if a bumiputra is poor, he will continue to be assisted based on needs and merit rather than race as the sole criterion,” he added.
Dr Chua was asked to comment on a statement by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak that Malaysia would continue with its affirmative action policy for bumiputras in reshaping the economy but would make things more equitable for non-bumiputras.
The Prime Minister had said the implementation of affirmative action under the New Economic Model would be reviewed but not its overall objectives since the aim was to develop a more equitable society towards long-term stability.
Dr Chua said affirmative action had to be redefined to ensure no problem in its implementation.
There should be no identification of economic functions with race, he added.

"Fully Agree" seems to be very prominent words in your statements.
If "NO AGREE", what would happen?
Make your stand clear and stop being a lap dog if you want to revive MCA, or more to the point, if you want to win back support for MCA.
You just have to be FIRM and make it CLEAR to ALL where you stand.
