Pakatan has not kept promises, says Soi Lek

SEREMBAN: Pakatan Rakyat leaders have not done anything about pledges they made during the 2008 general election, said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

“See for yourselves if there have been changes or any big difference since they assumed power in some states,” he said.

Dr Chua added many Pakatan representatives were nowhere to be seen after winning the seats.

“In fact, all the work in the constituencies where the Barisan lost is still being carried out by us from Barisan. We are the ones who are still serving the rakyat,” he told some 1,000 people at a Deepavali gathering organised by the Rahang MCA at Taman Limau Emas on Tuesday.

Dr Chua urged the people to give their support to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak so the Government could continue with its economic transformation programme.

On party matters, Dr Chua said all divisions had been directed to organise events to engage the people from all walks of life.

“This is to show our (MCA’s) gratitude to the people at the grassroots level who had helped us in many ways,” he said.

Kepada Rakan Seperjuangan Saya
Dato Seri Chua Soi Lek , President MCA
Selamat Tahun Baru

Hi there,

nowadays during b election, chinese people start to request this that. My opinion is that you can accept the responsibility to help them, but also remind this group of people you are not only the party helping them, but you need to take good care of the whole chinese community.
Let say if they want a chinese school, ask them to present a detail proposal, where to get teachers, student etc. then show the statistic why they need it. And at the same time you can tell the public, there is always a channel for people to ask for things. Not only during the b election or not only for certain group of people. What if gov use up all the allocation to build the school but sadly to found out no students, but other place need the allocation more didn't get the money?
Generally Chinese people want to see there are things done to help the community systematically.

1Malaysian said...

hi there again,

I dislike OTK. Drop him from the line up as he is not a team player. The reasons you can explain to the public especially in that particular area:

People want a leader to represent them, not a helper. He can be a very motivated helper that help to point the delayed repair road, help to solve minor issues. But how can he really help the people there if he is not a team player? Can he influence the gov policy on education? can he help with economy? As tax payer, we pay him (if he get elected) is not just for him to help x no of people then publicize it for personal gain. But to be the leader in the community to help the whole community. He is not up to the standard of being a leader.

1Malaysian said...

You can call for a meeting for all potential candidates for the line up. including OTK. Explain to all of them you need team player. Those willing to work together will be selected. This is because the candidates not only represent their area, there are also going to be leader for chinese community. Whatever they say or do will affect your party and prone for attack from PKR if not in unison with the party.

Put all govt. allocations aside, let's see how much you can do, Soi Lek. Even with the govt. allocations, how much have MCA contributed to society? Most of the allocations, were channel to other streams benefitting only MCA leaders and cronies. I dare you to deny this!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi there,

thanks for publishing my views. I have a rather strange view on you trying to abolish the 30% share in stock of our fellow malay friends in our country. This seems to be a right call( to please chinese voters) but not a smart call.

The question you really want all the rakyat to think about is:

Do they want 30% share of a cake that is RM1 billion big or (maybe) 18% share of the cake which is HUGE RM100 billion? on the other hand, you don't want to create a huge gap in income that the next thing on your face is a machine gun from those who think they are deprived.

Chinese by their nature are hardworking and good at doing business. If we are given chance to sit on high posts in many Malaysian big companies, we can easily beat Singapore economically with our finger. To be specific, little finger.

But, are we greedy Chinese only think of our own good that channel all the money to overseas instead of help to create more jobs in Malaysia? even with the risk of not that profitable? I am sure we are.

You see, this is a vicious cycle of not trusting each other. Who's move to break this?

We need to think BIG! chinese can't move forward by themselves in this country! Like it or not, we are now a country. you want fair treatment? be fair to our other friends in this country. It is not up to us to take away their stick, but we want to show them we are willing to share our knowledge of fishing. For the good of all! The secret is none other than being hardworking! (maybe they are not interested? How do you know? we can't change other people, but the main things is we do our part)

Then the next questions for everyone are:

are you going to be really happy if you have 30% share? Why 30%? not 40%, even 70%? 70% of what? a small pathetic cake? Are you aware that this sort of kind intervention from gov to help rakyat to trust each other have injured our economy big time?

Love and try to help each other, that is the real meaning of One Malaysia.

MCA chose Chua as their leader because he is a good leader to unite the party. This indirectly also reflects the heart of forgiveness of the party.

How much money can you gather by becoming a leader? Not any if you are about to go to heaven in 20 years time.

Aiming for money and fame that will be in vain by risking self public humiliation? Maybe he has a heart to fight for Chinese… think about it.

We shall see his ability.

About the Penang bird nest industry crisis. LGY sounded like the jointed decision which is intended to be good for majority of Rayat- became BN's decision when he faced possibility of losing his political popularity!

First, he is not a good leader as he doesn't know how to explain the good policy to the Penang people.

Second, he immediately selfishly think of his own political popularity without considering the interest of majority of Penang people. When this bird nest industry potentially affect Penang as World Heritage Site, majority of rayat will negatively affected by less tourism, etc. Instead of standing firm, he sounded like that is a bad decision and the bad decision is of course made by the central gov.

Thirdly, he doesn't know how to handle the crisis as leader. When the majority's interest is affected by minority's interest, leader needs skills to convinced and persuade minority to sacrifice.

Lastly, he doesn't understand the adaptability of chinese. Given chance, this group of bird nest industry people may enter into another industry with better profit. They may not be unhappy because of the decision. But lack of communication and confidence that gov will help them.

This is where your son with his position in the ministry can help.

Dear Dr.Chua . I know that MCA under your leadership is trying very hard to win back the Chinese votes, but clearly, even though you have won back some, many are infact turning away stronger than ever as shown by recent Sarawak polls. You guys have probably analysed just about almost everything why many Chinese aren't giving you their votes. The answer is right infront of you, but you guys can't see it. In a simple word, its called DIGNITY . How many times have the BN Govt tried to extort the Chinese votes by saying "If u don't vote for BN, u won't get anything?" . It really saddens me to see MCA as an UMNO puppet ... just like how Scottish Nobles were treated by the English King to control the Scotland in the past. Well, I guess u guys never saw this coming - The Chinese rather hold on to their pride and dignity and willingly lose all benefits of a so-called representation in the Govt. We rather die suffering than to beg and lose our self-dignity in the process. Perhaps, if you could really become one of the common Chinese, then you would know what we are really fighting for.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today that Umno supported hudud laws in principle....

That is why it is very very important that we keep the current BN concept. If PKR take over power, guess what? DAP has no say in forming the new social contract.(Please face the fact that Chinese is minority in this country) And DAP only contest in MCA constituencies will fasten the deterioration of current concept.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today that Umno supported hudud laws in principle....but Malaysia is not ready.. because of MCA and other component parties in BN.

MCA is not going to agree with that under the current social contract. So, speak up MCA. Tell the rakyat that once MCA still alive, there are not going to have hudud laws in malaysia.

首长林冠英儿子 issue, i think everyone missed the point. The main issue here is why he asked for a transfer? Is there misused of power as chief minister?

Alleged reason 1:

The right thing to do as chief minister is not to move your child away from the problem but to tackle the problem. This is a golden opportunity for you as you are the chief minister and came to know there was such a 毒品集团 in school! Ya, now your child is moved to another school, what about other parents with their kids been left behind. Do they have to worry about their kids too? They are definitely more vulnerable than chief minister if there was such a 毒品集团 in school?

Alleged reason 2:

That mean those kids stay behind the school like the crew cut? Is about discipline. Today you can change his school because of this, how about when he has grown up, can you change his 人生舞台 if he meet with challenges or something he doesn't like. I am sure the officers who are in charge of transfer will be very busy in future if every parent thinking of changing their kids' school.

I respect 林冠英 for what he has done for Malaysia.

LGE has promised CAT for Pakatan Government. However, the influx of foreign money laundering funds in Penang in the form of foreign property investment has left Penangites homeless or affordable houses beyond the reach of many. Many ended up with smaller homes & bigger house loan burden. CAT must cover not only government but also private sectors, especially foreign money laundering in Penang properties. Limiting foreigners to higher end properties will make the situation worse as this will push prices higher and low & medium cost prices will follow the upward trend. Foreign property investment must obtain clearance from the respective countries before allowed to purchase properties in Penang. There must be mechanism to monitor & control the disposal of such foreign owned properties to prevent Penang being used as "washing machine" of illegal money cleansing. LGE has failed to protect Penangites to own affordable homes. A simple check with local council will reveal that many houses in prime areas are owned by foreigners.

Sir,
I must commend you for your excellent skill in yesterday's debate. It only proves 1 thing, that facts will prevail over fallacies. Lim Guan Eng, given the chance to provide proof for his so-called excellent performance in governing Penang, failed miserably. When given the chance to answer the allegations, he kept on side-stepping.

In fact, many of his supporters are still in denial when you can see it in their comments in opposition portals.

The government has been providing more to the people, without even needing to showcase it to the public.

I hope your action will be emulated by other BN leaders. After all, there's nothing to be afraid of, when you got the government's track record to back you up.

Dear Sir,

Thorium-232 In Clay Soil Cannot Get Into Body Tissues

1. Ingestion

Thorium-232 is strongly bound (adsorbed) by soil especially clay soil. The Thorium concentration in the clay particles is about 500,000 % higher than in the water between the clay particles.
So, it cannot be leached out by water and pollute the rivers.
When ingested there is insignificant absorption of the Thorium because of this strong bond between the clay particles and the Thorium. Practically all the Thorium will be excreted in the faeces with the clay.

Even when Thorium-232 is in the gut, it cannot do any significant harm as a typical 5.5 MeV alpha particle can be expected to travel less than 0.005 cm in body fluids, or much less in the semi-solid faeces. That may be why, there is not a single well documented case of accidentally or environmentally ingested or inhaled Thorium-232 induced cancer in the intestines.

2. Inhalation

Because of its mass, Thorium-232 particles are very heavy and has great difficulty to get airborne.

Normally these particles get airborne only when they are very small and the only ones that can get deep into the lungs are those which are about 1 to 2 micron in diameter.

These fine particles are only found in the mines and experimental nuclear plants where powerful machines are used or where there is combustion. The chance of inhaling 1 to 2 micron sized thorium particles in the Kuantan air is practically non-existent.

All lung disorders are associated with prolonged exposure in the mines or Thoriun refining plants where the above conditions are present.

3. External Threat

Thorium-232 produces only alpha rays (gamma rays from daughter isotopes are insignificant) which cannot pass through even a thin piece of paper or the surface of the skin.
There is therefore no external threat.

4. Unnatural Routes of Entry

The only way Thorium can gain entry into the body is by injection. In the past where huge doses of 25cc to 50 cc of a 25% solution of Thorium dioxide (Thorotrast) was injected into the vein for contrast radiological studies, a small number of patients may develop cancers 20 to 30 years later. Even with these high unnatural doses, there was no acute toxicity.

In the south of the state of Kerala in India the soil contains as much as 4,000 ppm (parts of Thorium per million). Studies have shown that there is little or no accumulation of Thorium-232 in the inhabitants,
The Lynas waste contains only 1,650 ppm.

So if Thorium cannot enter the body in significant amounts by ingestion or inhalation and alpha rays do not pose an external threat, what's all the big fuss about the Lynas rare earth plant ?

Even our MMA has come up with rather irrational belief that radiation from Lynas is dangerous when the only mildly radioactive element Thorium-232 is present in the waste. And this gives out only alpha rays which can be stopped by a thin sheet of paper and cannot penetrate the skin.

Dear Sir,

The Perfect Site To Send The Lynas Waste.

Remember the Tin Slags from the Eastern Smelting and Straits Trading in Penang ? These, which contain the tantalium and monazite ore, are more than 3,700 % more radioactive than the Lynas waste.

And these were used to fill up the old Penang Stadium and the roads in Penang. A lot of these has already been stolen and sold off at a huge profit, but a lot still remains in the roads in Butterworth and Penang island.

None of the people in Penang have not developed Cancer so far in spite of the fact that the Tin Slags are more than 3,700 % more radioactive! So they must be immune to radiation and can easily live with something that is far, far less radioactive !

There are only 2 natural ways of getting any substance into your body:

1. By Eating it (Ingestion) or

2. By Breathing it (Inhalation)

Thorium-232 in clay soil cannot get into you blood stream if you eat it because of it's strong adsorption to clay (stuck firmly to clay).

As explained below, you need to eat far more than 17,000 Kilograms of Lynas waste before you can get cancer in about 30 years time in your old age.

Likewise, you need to breathe in 3.4 Kilograms of Lynas waste (in order to get 5.58 gm of Thorium or 1 vial of Thorotrast) to get cancer in about 30 years time !

As stated, Kuantan people are not MINERS and as such it is impossible to inhale 3.4 Kilograms even in a life-time !

Thorium-232 is harmless when outside the body as it produces only alpha rays which cannot penetrate even a thin piece of paper.

All you have to do is to wrap it up in a piece of newspaper and it will become virtually non-radioactive.

So if Thoriun-232 cannot get into the body in significant amount by inhalation or ingestion and it poses no external threat,

HOW and WHY on earth IS IT CONSIDERED TO BE SO DANGEROUS BY THE ANTI-LYNAS PEOPLE ?

My Reply to Soo Jin Hou’s Letter in the Sun Daily

“LET’S de-politicise the Lynas issue” (Letters, March 23) refers.
The writer said 0.02% to 0.05% of ingested thorium is absorbed and gets into the blood stream. Absorption studies were done on animals for obvious reasons, and in the vast majority of these, the thorium was not mixed with clay, which binds very strongly to the clay particles i.e. adsorbed.

Thorium-232 is strongly bound (adsorbed) by soil especially clay soil. The thorium concentration in the clay particles is about 500,000% higher than in the water between the clay particles (the interstitial spaces of the clay particles). So, it cannot be leached out by water or intestinal juice.

When ingested, there is insignificant absorption of the thorium because of this strong bond between clay particles and thorium. Practically all the thorium will be excreted in the faeces with the clay.
So the actual amount of thorium that is absorbed into the blood stream when mixed with clay soil as in the case of the Lynas waste is much, much less than 0.02%.

Since Lynas waste contains 1,650 parts of thorium per million and even if we take the inflated rate of 0.02% absorption, it would mean that to get 0.33g of thorium into the blood stream, we have to swallow 1,000kg (1 tonne) of Lynas waste!

Practically all the data on the carcinogenic effects of thorium-232 was obtained retrospectively from the intravenous use of a massive dose of thorium dioxide called Thorotrast (a 25cc vial of a 25% colloidal suspension of thorium dioxide) in investigative radiological studies.

Studies appear to show that a small number out of the 4 million patients who were given this massive dose of 1 or 2 vials (containing 5.58g to 11.7g of thorium) of Thorotrast, developed cancer especially of the liver 20 to 30 years later in their old age.

So in order to get 5.58g of thorium-232 (equivalent to 1 vial of Thorotrast), we have to swallow an incredible 17,000kg or 17 tonnes of Lynas waste!

I do not think anybody in Kuantan will be able to swallow 17 tonnes of Lynas waste … and that is assuming that the thorium-232 is not strongly adsorbed to clay particles.

With respect to the inhalation of thorium-232, all studies were conducted on workers in the uranium or thorium mining or refining industry and not on populations in towns like Kuantan, and therefore do not apply to the present issue.
