Dr Chua Soi Lek: Your candidate for MCA Deputy President

To all of my fellow comrades,

It is with great humility that I make this announcement today to say that I shall offer myself for the post of MCA Deputy President in the upcoming MCA party elections.

There comes a time when one realizes the importance of service to the community, party and ultimately the nation. It is only a question of what you have to offer.

I have led a life of service in MCA, and I believe I continue to have the energy, the ideas and most importantly the leadership to bring about the change and reforms necessary for the progress of the party and more importantly the country.

As most people already know, I relinquished all party posts early this year. However, many grassroots members encouraged me to stay on and serve the party and the nation. Hence, I went back to basics again as an ordinary member, and participated in elections from branch to division levels in the party.

I have also been meeting with grassroots members from all over the country. I have had many discussions and consultations with them about what they, as the backbone of the MCA, feel should be the direction the party should take. Many of these ordinary members also encouraged me to continue serving and contributing to the MCA and to the country, because of my experience, particularly in dealing with party members, government leaders, Cabinet members on community and national issues.

They feel that my capability and experience in these areas will be strongly needed to help reform, re-engineer, rebuild and revitalise the party, in order to meet the needs and demands of the community and nation at this critical period of change in Malaysia today. The grassroots strongly feel that MCA should have a strong team at this critical period to be a force of change - to have real change and real politics, taking into consideration the political reality and landscape in Malaysia today.

Hence, I have come to a decision and pledge not to let down the expectation of the grassroots for me to work closely with the other to-be-elected leaders as a team to put MCA back into its position of leadership and reform, from the dismal state it finds itself in now.

As I declare my decision to seek the support and endorsement of party members and delegates in this coming party election, I wish to reiterate that the way forward for MCA is to be a real political party, which can fit into the new political landscape, and to reflect the political reality of the day. Hence, the party election campaign should be a battle of ideas, to introduce reforms for the party to go forward based on 3 platforms:

1. Real Politics, Real Influence;
2. Real Equality, Real Rights;
3. Real Socio-economic Growth

I believe that the new direction for the MCA must be all encompassing. The party must look into all issues that are close to the hearts of the people and to take quick and decisive measures to resolve them. The MCA must be able to reach out to the people to listen to their concerns. The party must have relevance, enthusiasm and vigor.

1) 真正的政治,真正的影响力;
2) 真正的平等,真正的权利;

DP is a good choice. The only charismatic leaders in MCA are you and Chua Jui Meng. Don't kill one another. There rest are lame ducks.

Dear Dr. Chua,

I am quite disappointed with your decision this time. I personally think that you are more suitable to contest the president post than Mr. Chua jui Meng. To me, he is already outdated. I understand your situation and the reason why you choose to contest the deputy president. No matter what, God bless you.................

I am amazed with the life force that you possessed, that you can survive through a scandal and you are even stronger after that.

I am in no means of disrespect when I said this. When the news of your scandal first appeared,I would have expect denial from a certain minister and cover ups after that.

You have amazed me by standing up and admit that it is you in the video clip. It takes a lot of courage to do so and I must be honest with you that not many people can do that.

I have also done some checking up after you became an overnight celebrity. Comments on you were good, not only from locals but also Malaysian from overseas. It is very rare for a politician to have a good reputation even across the ocean.

I am not a member of MCA but you have my respect and I will spiritually support you. I am sure that your gaining of the position will definitely do more good for the country.

DR,Your name is the butt of a joke, the source of a laugh and the title of a scandal.I at first thought that when you resign from all post, you will begin your new political career in another party. But since you are determine to go back to MCA,I have to honestly say this spell the end of your political career. Those who urge you on are old comrades who have their own agenda. They rarely considered other perspectives.I can well appreciate your ability to examine ideas or policies that has been suitable and decide to move on if it no longer fits. This characteristic escapes most chinese.Sadly, the very positive attributes you possesses appear to be fodder for voters to doubt your abilities. The only salvation I can see,if any, will be when the older folks die off and the younger generation realize MCA's mistakes and embrace a candidate like you.For the time being, just hold your finger close and I wish you plenty of luck. This election is do or die for you.For you to fail this time is a price to high to pay.But may for you may this slogan is more appropriate 'Failure is the mother of success'.

Finally you've decided to step into the ring in order to serve the party and the people. Your timing, if not by design, is a "gift" to Malaysia just when we need competent leaders like yourself. Keep it up and keep going despite all the negative talks. Success or failure, you leave it to others and the future generation to judge.GOOD LUCK!

Dear Michelle,

I think MCA would be better off without OTK as the president. If I'm not mistaken, the historic yet shameful chair throwing incident in the Youth wing happened when OTK was at helm. I'm sure MCA members would not like to see that kind of culture brought into the parent body. CJM would be a better choice than him

Soi Lek,

Good luck and best wishes to you on your long and perilous journey to reform an unpopular party.

You must go into battle with a true heart and fighting spirit to rid this country of injustice, corruptuion and racism as expounded by the very same people in the coalition you belong to. If you can't do that you will not have God on your side to win this political battle.

Give me a break, dr chua. You bring shame to all chinese and MCA and now you want to contest for deputy president of MCA? This is why people have eluded MCA. The party is led by people which have no shame on their irresponsible acts and bring shame to the party members. You will win your contest because MCA is full of dummies who support dummy like you. Haha. Not to be sarcastic, but i am quite disappointed with MCA which still has shameless leaders like you, OTK and some others. MCA : Malay-Controlled Anjing

With regards to your challenge to OKC for deputy, what can I say about the Ong Brothers? 9 point party platform? The very first tenet (healthy political culture) was broken when the President APPOINTED his own brother to the powerful Sec Gen post and subsequently appointed to succeed him in the Housing Ministry!

Admist their sincere, gentle, goody two shoes look and calm oratory, I was shocked to receive a series of "flying letters" running down CSL. Hmm.. healthy political culture indeed.. running down your challengers this way? What a hypocrite! I rest my case

"KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 150 Chikungunya cases were reported in the country between Sept 7 and 13, an increase of 26 cases from the previous week.

So far, the cumulative number of cases reported nationwide are 1,975 with most of them in Johor (1,098), followed by Malacca (471), Perak (193), Negri Sembilan (124), 40 each in Selangor and Pahang, four each in Kelantan and Putrajaya, Sarawak (two) and one each in Penang and Kuala Lumpur."

Our present bungling minister has been grappling with this Chikungunya thingy for the past several months and it showed no signs of abating.. I hope either one of the ex-minister of Health could advise the present "all talk no action" minister, afirmative actions on how to contain things like this Chikungunya fever?

Whatever the outcome of the party election, pls look after the INTEREST OF ALL MALAYSIAN!!! I dont agree with OKT that MCA continues to champion Chinese causes, just for a plain reason Malaysia will become more and more racist. MCA should champion causes for all Malaysian.

If MCA continue the same race based philosophy, I think the future of MCA is questionable. Just my 2 sense...

Dr. Chua
If MCA wants to have a REAL change, people must start thinking about championing the causes of MALAYSIANS instead of just Chinese. When you care for all Malaysians, naturally Chinese will support you.

I'm shocked that the very top man of MCA OKT is behaving no better than our "shameful" home minister Syed Hamid Albar giving such "racist agenda" to lead MCA. He is but a REAL beggar. How on earth people in Kulai voted for him! Shame on Ka Ting!!!

I hope you & Hui Ming are not that narrow minded.

but will respect your decision and wish you all the best in this battle.

MCA needs a true leader like you if they want to reinvent themselves and stay relevant to the community. The need someone that's not only fearless but with long term vision.

As for comments from people like 'atimetravellersdiary', they are the reason why our community is not progressing.narrow minded and not being able to judge objectively.

great chinese leaders like dr sun yat sen, mao ze dong too had simllar issues, but their leadership qualities outshines their weakness in personal issues.......

husbands we have aplenty, we need a TRUE leader.

all the best again dr chua. there will be no hope for MCA if ppl like OTK,OKC helms the leadership....so its not only a battle for position, but a life and death battle for MCA's survival

Doc, if you're really passionate about reenginnering MCA, you should go for the President post. When you're there, you can then have the power to turn MCA upside down like emptyig a garbage bin of all the rubbish inside. Perhaps you have no confidence of making it and hence are taking a safer option to go for the Deputy President post. As a Deputy President, you cannot change MCA because you won't have the power to do so. It may, however, make you a minister if, and I emphasize IF, BN is still in power then. As it is, don't blame people if they read your agenda as wanting to get a minister post rather than to reengineer MCA.

Family of Four said...

Apart from that sad personal episode, I believe you are capable of great leadership. In fact, you are the best and most memorable leader in the "effective-efficient realm" of Chinese MCA Minister since Siew Sin.

Siew Sin left for a reason and the next MCA leader will face the same problems he did. How do you play with the UMNO leaders, looks good to the Malaysian populace and yet get what they all want especially those who voted you on the MCA platform? How far should you go on "compromising politics' as Chinese rights as Malaysians get eroded with each passing Parliament?

It is rather sad that with each new MCA president, we have gone from "almost full UMNO" partner to a voice in the wilderness. After being left in the lurch by San Choon (more for personal reasons,I suppose),the internecine battles fought by Yee Pan and Koon Swan weakened MCA further. Money won the day and the academic was given the boot. Koon Swan had a sojourn as MCA President before spending time elsewhere. And then he found God again! Then came Liong Sik when UMNO was at its zenith under the strong-armed stewardship Of Tun Mahathir. It was a wall that he will soon face and knowing that he went cowardly for little victories, avoiding even minor skirmishes. He then forgot the MCA national agenda and put his own agenda into operation in the era of the privatisation fever. He must be mighty glad to get UTAR when Samy had already procured AIMST.

As usual, he put some weak people in power when he left. Ka Ting, who lacks leadership in almost all areas, was immediately embroiled in the 'left over' war of the Liong Sik-Ah Lek taikoh fight. The compromise with Kong Choy being given a Minister post gave a little breathing space for MCA but little solace to the Chinese community.

Then came March 8.

So as one of the so-called grass-root driven person offering yourself for MCA leadership, what are the primary concerns for the Chinese people today and what are the operational plans to get these? The Chinese are pragmatic. In fact most have chosen which direction to go after the May 1969 incident. They invest in their children's education, get into businesses that exports to off-shore markets and believe me, many are now having PRs from Australia,NZ to Singapore. They have generally become apolitical knowing that MCA,Gerakan and DAP are just merely playing 'futsal' with their future in Malaysia

Remember the world is changing because of globalisation and technology. You must have something to offer that is in step with these global phenomena.

Education and information actually weakened UMNO as those bumiputras who came out of the universities, both local and overseas, saw through the rampant injustices and the ketuanan UMNO talk down and did BN in on March 8.

I hope your vision-mission is something realistic and realizable if you should get elected.

All the best

Donald Lim Siang Chai Should be Rejected as MCA Deputy President for Playing the Race Card to Create Racial Fear Among the Chinese
Monday, September 29, 2008

MCA vice-president Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai announced that he would contest the party deputy presidency at the MCA election on Oct 18.

Donald Lim Siang Chai said:

"I am already a vice-president, so it is only natural that I contest a higher position and I have decided on deputy president."

Donald Lim Siang Chai was rejected by voters when he failed to retain the Petaling Jaya Selatan parliamentary constituency in the March 8 general election. Read here for more.

Donald Lim Siang Chai was quoted as saying if Chinese Malaysians vote the Opposition, it will create a tense enviroment that will affect business and the economy and will result in the government being ruled only by Malays.

Such statement from a Chinese leader offends the sensibilities of ordinary Chinese and Malays. It is without doubt aimed at creating communal insecurity among Chinese Malaysians . It is racist in intent.

Donald Lim is playing gutter racial politics, no different from those ultra-Malays in UMNO.(Read here for more)

Malaysia cannot afford to have any Chinese leader in a political party in a ruling coalition government who still espouses racially-biased views despite the fact that voters across all races after March 8 election have rejected race-based politics of UMNO, MCA and MIC.

It is time that MCA grassroot members show the necessary courage to move MCA FORWARD for the sake of their future generations after MCA's dismal performace in March 8 Election. For MCA leaders to continue to play the race card and harp on racial issues will only lead to MCA into political wilderness, worse still, into oblivion. To move forward, MCA grassroots should start dusting off leaders from the MCA hierarchy who were already rejected by voters, especially those who still play the race-card to win support. Donald Lim Siang Chai is one such person.

Donald Lim Siang Chai , despite being an incumbent MP and former Deputy Tourism Minister, was rejected by the predominantly Chinese voters in Petaling Jaya Selatan seat. And that should be a clear message to MCA grassroots that his racially-based politics is totally out of step with majority of voters desiring a new Malaysia.

Likewise, the MCA membership should reject Donald Lim Siang Chai as Deputy President of MCA, for two reasons: firstly for playing the race card and secondly, voters in his constituency did NOT want him to re-enter Parliament in the March 2008 election.

Donald Lim Siang Chai belongs to the backward-looking old school of racially-biased MCA politicians very much favoured by UMNO, so much so that a vote for MCA by Chinese Malaysians in any election becomes a vote for UMNO.

MCA presidential candidate Datuk Ong Tee Keat has promised direct elections for the party presidency if he is elected next month.
___________________________________

What a dump candidate ! You have shown yourself to be of no substance ! The direct elections for the party presidency should be put on the back burner , they are off no importance to MCA at this moment . What is important is how you are going to make MCA relevant by fighting for the abolishment of the NEP , meritocracy , Ketuanan Melayu , etc etc , not the direct election of the president . If MCA is rejected by the Chinese community , even if the president is elected by the the members , its of NO USE !. I think you your have got your priorities all WRONG ! How can you not place the abolishment of the NEP which is one of the main factors causing the sidelining of the community ! You are just not fit to be the party president sorry to say that . best Presidential candidate ? must have got your eyes plastered with shit ! Chua Jui Meng is a better candidate anytime .

WHAT HAPPEN TO YOUR PROMISE TO REVEAL THE REPORT ON THE PORT KLANG FREE TRADE ZONE ISSUE.

Got this comment from OTK blog

PM asks Chan to explain
Llew-Ann Phang and Terence Fernandez
KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 13, 2007): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has asked Transport Minister Datuk Seri Chan Kong Choy to explain why concerns by Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) addressed to Chan over the progress of the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) were not entertained.
"I will get Chan to report to me about this," Abdullah said after opening the National Asset and Facility Management (Nafam) Convention 2007 today.
He was responding to theSun's front-page report today that Jafza pulled out of the PKFZ deal because of political interference, bureaucracy and non-conformation to the management agreement signed between Jafza and the Port Klang Authority (PKA).
Jafza executive chairman Sultan Ahmed Sulayem and its senior vice-president (international operations), Chuck Heath, wrote to Chan on March 11 and May 29 last year, respectively, but received no replies.
In his letter, Sultan Ahmed had said Jafza was facing difficulties working with PKA and these issues were previously advised by Heath.
Sultan Ahmed said Jafza was concerned that the zone's reputation would be in jeopardy because of PKA's continued interference which caused delay.
He said PKA had also overruled many areas of its responsibilities, resulting in, among others, an incident in which Jafza general manager Noel Gulliver was escorted out of the office and taken to the immigration headquarters for working without a permit.
Heath's letter pointed to a "total lack of government planning ... which has seen the most fundamental issues being considered and resolved only after the event rather than before".
Further, he said, transparency was non-existent and the "Malaysian political and economic landscape has too many vested interests seeking involvement and control in this project".
Heath also alleged that since the signing of the management agreement, many issues arose, contrary to the spirit of the agreement and the contractual obligations of both parties.
Abdullah said: "The Jebel Ali Free Zone (is) some kind of joint venture for the development of the port site. It involves the Dubai people, so I don't want to make any comment at this point."
He agreed that he had a meeting with Jafza officials but that it was held "a long time ago but it was not because of this".
Dubai-based Jafza had on July 18 announced it was pulling out of the agreement to manage the PKFZ for 15 years with the aim to mirror Jafza's competitive and attractive business environment because of "strategic reasons".
The reasons it cited was that it wanted to concentrate on projects where it could retain control of equity. In PKFZ's case, 100% equity was held by PKA.
The original cost of the project ballooned from RM2 billion to RM4.6 billion because of, among others, overvalued land costs.
What stands on the site are rows of unoccupied buildings, an incomplete four-star hotel and pothole-ridden roads.
Documents obtained by theSunrevealed that the fallout was because of red tape, political meddling, inaccurate minutes and attempted tax evasions.
Newly-appointed PKA chairman Datuk Chor Chee Heung berated the authors of the report saying it was pointless to get his comments at this stage.
Asked if the report was inaccurate, Chor said he was at a meeting and would respond later.
PKA general manager Datin Paduka O.C. Phang, who was accused by Jafza officials for her part in frustrating the agreement, was unavailable for comment as she was attending meetings all day.
