Selangor has failed to keep promise of increasing sand revenue: Soi Lek

KLANG: The Selangor state government has failed to keep its promise of generating RM150mil annually from the sale of sand, said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.

"They promised in the past that they will generate RM150mil a year but in reality, the revenue has drastically decreased to about RM10mil a year," said Dr Chua after launching the Selangor MCA state convention 2010 here Sunday.

Speaking at a press conference later, Dr Chua said the state's sand revenue had dropped in 2008 and 2009 after Pakatan Rakyat took over Selangor.

He added that Pakatan had also contradicted its election manifesto by setting-up a company (Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd) to manage the state's sand-mining activities.

"They said they would not be involved in business in their manifesto before the general election but as soon as they became the ruling party (in Selangor), they set-up a company to manage sand.

"This created many issues and many accusations and at the end, the revenue from the sale of sand also went down," he added.

Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd has been mired in various controversies, including allegations of graft, recently.

Earlier in his speech at the convention, Dr Chua said the MCA must regain the support of the people, especially members of the Chinese community, for its political survival.

He added the party's reputation and political survival also depended on the outcome of the next general election.

He said the Selangor MCA must monitor the state government closely and reveal its weaknesses to the electorate.

Stop spinning stories like we're stupid. Thanks.

Statistics speak for itself. They have increasing sand revenue every year. So please, for the benefit of the rakyat, harp on something more useful, such as the increasing cost of living in Malaysia. Introduce minimum wage for example? That will surely help a lot of low income earners.
