Chua: Bumiputra quota issue raised to ensure plan’s success

JOHOR BARU: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek says he has no other agenda in raising the 30% bumiputra quota issue other than ensuring that the Government’s economic transformation plan succeeded.

“Time is not on our side. We only have 10 years. Let’s not be fixated on this 30%, as the most important thing now is to rapidly grow the economy so that there will be a bigger size of cake for everyone,” he said in responding to a rebuke from Umno permanent chairman Datuk Badruddin Amiruldin, who advised him to work as a team player in the Barisan Nasional and to stop hurting the Malays.

Dr Chua pointed out that under the Ninth Malaysia Plan, domestic and private investments only grew by 2%.

“Under the 10th Malaysia plan, we have to grow by at least six-fold to 12%, which amounts to RM150bil annually,” he told reporters after attending the 88th anniversary of the Johor Baru Tiong Hua Federation dinner here yesterday. On Thursday, Dr Chua had said that the implementation of the social contract could be discussed, but that it should be done behind closed doors.

He suggested that measures be taken to improve the Government delivery system, reduce red tape and create more transparent policies.

“There should not be any flip flop in our policies and there should be no little Napoleons,” he said, adding that it was also important to establish a business-friendly environment.

Dr Chua explained that it was not a question of the Chinese pitted against the Malays but the whole country competing against the world to attract foreign investments.

“If there is good growth every year, then whatever equity the Chinese or Malays get will be meaningful as the cake will be bigger,” he said.

MCA publicity bureau deputy chairman and central committee member Loh Seng Kok concurred with Dr Chua, saying that the party’s suggestion was never aimed along racial lines but purely with the country’s and people’s interest in mind.

In Malaysia,by composition,Malays and Bumiputera accounts for 65% of the population, where back in the Merdeka days it was 88%.

But the economy controlled by the Malays is only less than 20% even though the target set by our political leaders (UMNO,MCA,MIC)in 1970s was 30%,which was never achieved.

In comparison, you see Singapore, where the population of Chinese is 75% and they control almost 90% of the ECONOMY...so for Malaysia to have 65% Malays and Bumis,Shouldnt they be controlling at least more than 50% of the ECONOMY???

If you say they CANT because of various factors,go back to the HISTORY of the Malacca Sultanate;
1400-1511,how come the Economy was thriving and expanding then, where traders from afar, from China,Arabs world, from India and Asia were all
heading for Malacca????

And it was the JEALOUSY of the trade and business activities of that period that prompted the Europeans, under the flag of the Portugese that attacked Malacca to take control of the trade and business of the Malacca Sultanate.

so if the Malays, who were the forgotten lots in Trade and Business after 500 years of neglect wanted to make a comeback,
BAGI CHAN lah bro....Work hand in hand under the 1Malaysia concept...

If we keep on fighting for who get more share in the economy pie,NO ONE race win but if we work HAND-IN-HAND,it will be a WIN-WIN situation.

You can see as an example, during any OPEN HOUSE reception,if there is a scramble, free for all race to get the makan, what can happen????

It will be MESSY,unpleasant and Wasteful for the triumphants...
but for the Unfortunates?? They dont get much and in thier hearts, these unfortunates will curse the GREEDY Triumphants..
Betul Tak??

so,in order to maintain the PEACE and CIVIL society for now, until the end of time for Malaysia, WORK Hand-in-Hand,berTolak Ansor in Harmony. Not to get one to TOLAK BerANSOR(Meaning give away little by little, slowly),which will create RESENTMENT.....
