Press statement by MCA President Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek on 988 DJ Jamaluddin Ibrahim being taken off the air by radio station

The MCA has never interfered in the operations of The Star Publications (M) Bhd and its subsidiary - Star Rfm Sdn Bhd which owns the 988 Mandarin radio station. The party is fully aware of the status of The Star Publications Bhd as a public listed company and its responsibilities to the shareholders.

I met disc jockey Jamaluddin Ibrahim on May 3, 2010, at the MCA headquarters after the latter requested to see me. Such meetings with journalists, whether print or electronic, is part of my duty as the party president, It is not true that I have met him five times as he has claimed.

Jamaluddin, as a Muslim, should be more responsible and not made misleading and wrongful statements, particularly in this holy month of Ramadhan.

I am given to understand that the 988 radio station has received a warning letter from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). I am informed that Jamaluddin was asked to go on leave.

The MCA is not responsible for the decision on Jamaluddin. I reiterate that the MCA will not intervene in the case and that the matter will be fully handled by the management.

I wish to reiterate the new MCA leadership would not interfere in the operations and management of The Star and the 988 radio station. Star Publications, as a listed company, has an independent management and the professional team should be left to make their operations decisions.

I also believe that the media group should not be used or abused for any individual agenda.


马华总会长针对988电台主持人迦瑪事件声明

马华总会长拿督斯里蔡细历医生今日重申，马华领导层從未干预《星报》及其属下的 988电台的运作。
他说，马华了解《星报》作为一间挂牌公司的地位，以及它必须对股东所负起的责任。

他说，在迦玛主动要求下，他在5月3日和迦瑪在马华总部会面一次。

蔡细历发表文告指出，他和新闻工作者会面，无论他们是来自印刷或电子媒体，也是他身为马华总会长的工作之一。
“ 迦玛鲁丁指他五度会见我是不确实的言论。迦玛身为一名回教徒，必须更负责任和不应发表误导及错误的言论，特别是在圣洁的斋戒月里。”
他透露被告知，988电台接到通讯和多媒体委员会的警告信，并获通知迦玛受指示请假。

蔡细历重申，对迦玛作出的决定，马华没有做出任何的指示，同时强调马华更不会插手干涉此事，马华也將此事交由管理层全权处理。

他声明，马华领导层不會干涉《星报》和988电台的操作和管理，《星报》集团屬於挂牌公司，它拥有独立的管理和专业队伍作出决定。
“我相信媒体機構不应被任何有个人议程的利用和滥用。”
