Impact of Mahathir leaving UMNO

Mahathir leaving UMNO has come as a shock to most Malaysians. Mahathir is no ordinary UMNO member. He led this country and was president of UMNO for 22 years as well as being the Prime Minister of Malaysia. While he has done a lot for the country, Mahathir, like all human beings, has also many weaknesses of which we can be critical of. Leaving UMNO is the last straw to force the Prime Minister to resign, but I do not think Pak Lah will resign.

Mahathir’s action only serves to weaken UMNO and BN within UMNO. The divide between Abdullah and the pro Mahathir forces will be aggravated and the UMNO leadership will have to spend time mending fences and doing damage control rather then moving forward and addressing important and pressing issues in the post electoral aftermath.

Since UMNO is affected and destabilized, it will definitely affect other component parties in BN. UMNO’s dominance in BN and national politics has reached the crossroads and more and more people are critically re-evaluating the role of UMNO since the elections.

I sincerely doubt that large numbers of UMNO members will follow what Mahathir has done since the feeling of fear and patronage is still deeply embedded in UMNO.

Since BN practices the concept of non-interference in the internal politics of component parties, component parties of BN can only hope that UMNO re-evaluates and re-organizes itself, instead of being entangled in the blame game.

From Dr M resignation to a nation Economy and politic problem......I worry Malaysia future

Dr M resignation will further weaken the Malaysia political stability, from the economic point of view, as a normal citizen we are worry about the current global problem like commodity price is raising , obviously the Oil is the main issue. USA have a sign of economic downturn already, this will be impact to Malaysia sooner or later. The former Deputy PM of Singapore Dr Tan had warned Singaporean to be get ready for the next economic turmoil.

Lets look into above matter added the instability of Malaysia political issue, would Malaysia will hit by both issue ? This is the worry, if both Economical and political issue hit our beloved Malaysia, are we strong enough like 1997 to solve the above both problem.

Today i just got some Singapore dollar from Singapore to exchange to Malaysia Ringgit, surprisingly SGD1 is equal to RM2.363. This should be the highest in this year.are this the sign of economy turmoil is coming?................

Further to this , the global natural disaster in Myanmar and china also further worsen the world economy. as a IT and Businessman , i have a feeling that the economy nightmare is coming............... be ready.........

Dr Chua was right to say that not many will UMNO. And "perjuangan negara, bangsa dan agama" and love for the party have nothing to do with it. I was not surprised of the support shown by UMNO MP to PM. Who in UMNO is not afraid of losing contracts, patronage and most importantly money? Also, there is the risk their scandals will be exposed. So fear of losing everything is also one reason they cling on to UMNO and it appears the rakyat got to suffer until a rightous and just person takes over. Also, Tun Mahathir is not indispensable. So is Badawi the PM. Malaysia will continue to function even if both were to disappear now with some temporary instability.

The stage is set for a group of UMNO leaders to use Mahathir's influence to challenge Pak Lah-Najib alliance. This group will eventually split from UMNO and form its own party. Then, this group will try to replace Keadilan and offer better deals to other party to form the new coalition.

hongkie, that is baseless. How can you say that is the basis for them staying in umno? The way i see it is everyone has their own reasons for staying and to group all of them like that is unfair. Just like Dr. M's decision to leave umno, what is it really based on, nobody truly knows. Is it really for his "love" for umno and it is his last desperate attempt to save it or is it for other personal reasons? Try to look at it in different perspectives.

Dr Mahathir said as a doctor if there is a part of the body which is gangrenous which could cause the whole body to become diseased, he would amputate that part of the body.

We also know , from the little baby who lost her foream in Klang GH sometime ago ,that if a gangrenous part is left alone to rot it would automatically fall off after some time which is known as auto-amputation.

Dr Mahathir has realised that he is gangrenous to UMNO and has decided to auto amputate himself.

Thank You Doc !!

Dear Dr. Chua,

The impact of Dr. M leaving UMNO, will not only affect the UMNO, but also the country as a whole. However, i hope the PM will handle it wisely in order not to affect the stablity of the country politic and economic as a whole. It is a very tricky problem, and it should be handled properly.
On the other hand, it is right of DR. M who wish to quit from the party, however, as the former leader, i personally think, DR. M should take the future of the counrty into consideration, should look at the whole picture. Yes, Dr. M got the right to crictise on the policies that the current government practise, however, there are other ways to do it. As Dr. M was the former leader, he should know that it is not easy to run the country with the high-fly result in short time. Dr. M was the PM for 22 years, but the current PM only serve for 5 years. We shouldn't compare them in this way. We should give the PM Badawi more time to perform. We shouldn't too fast to jump into conclusion.
Hope that everything will be settled in a peaceful way. God Bless.............

Yup, I too don't think that good for nothing dumbshit of a PM will resign. I can only speculate why... shameless!!

As for the rest of the suckup ass MPs, well, what can I say? Of course, these buggers will not resign! They dont have the balls to do anything.. what more walk out and do something that is righteous such as saving their association or race. These buggers are too self absorbed and greedy to even stand up! Again, shameless!!

I noticed that UMNO goes through such crisis every few years. First, it was Mahathir with Tuanku then now, is..Mahathir with Badawi. It looks like some boxing match!! Anyway, as a non-malay, I really dont care about their internal fighting. If anything, I would say, let them fight and kill each other like dogs. Afterall, they will not be missed! Nature's way of getting rid of scums perhaps?! Bwahahahahaha!!! I am such a bitch!

Melayu mudah lupa... that statement by Mahathir is so true.

its always Mahathir against someone else. And in all cases Mahathir was always right.

All offices and Departments MUST have a potrait of Mahathir and we must pay homage to this Father of Modern Malaysia everyday

Dr Chua,

Why don't you analyse the reasons why Dr M could not let go all these years? Are there something he could not afford to lose.

He is already old. He should take a rest.

Mmmm。。。

Personally, I would not think Dr Mahathir's resignation will have a great impact on Malaysian politics, albeit some initial knee jerk reactions from the stock market and create some front-page news.

I had a lot of respect for the man who had done so much for the country, bringing Malaysia from basically an agricultural country to quite an industrialised one. Of course over the years, he had also created so much cronyism and nepotism, not to mention the extent of corruption in the country.

I personally think that since Abdullah is his own choice as successor, Dr. Mahathir should have retired happily and not continue to meddle and criticize in the running of the government, more so when his attacks on Abdullah are so vitriolic, we sometimes wonder what is in his mind.

UMNO is already quite a rotten party, if it does not change and take heed of the needs of the rakyat, especially non-Malays, it is not going to gain the confidence of the voters, comes GE13.

Now that almost all UMNO MP are backing Abdullah, even his own son also does not want to leave UMNO (of course Mukhriz has his own objective of targeting the position of UMNO Youth chief). Over the months, key UMNO people, having the year-end party election in mind, have all begun to desert him. Where is Dr. Mahathir heading? He might still have a few old guards, people like Sanusi Junid with him.

malayamuda,

Aiyah.. the photo thingy is some sort of rule for business premises la... it is not Mahathir's picture la... it is the current Prime Minister together with the Agung and wifey and sometimes the MB of that State. Oh ya.. got protocol on how to place the pictures and also got their official pictures too which by the way, you have to pay for it. Go check it out with the PM's department la..

When you go to any of the inefficient government offices or agencies, you will now see a waffle looking man punya picture like Christmas ornaments on the wall. Yes la, he is the current PM la. Nope, he is not selling waffles or promoting Christmas!

Whatever it is, if I have give my support to either Mahathir or Badawi, I will give to Mahathir anytime! Yah, he is no saint and there are times he make mistakes but that is because he is human. In my record, his contributions outweigh his mistakes. He fulfilled his duties as the PM of the country no matter what people think or have to say about him. Yah, tyranny is sometimes needed in our country where people are not always matured and wise.

Say what you like, aside from all the modernization achievements, the best gift he has given any Malaysian is the ability to believe in ourselves that we can do it and we are to be acknowledged and respected as a nation. You think any of the pass, present or even future PMs can do what he did?! Nah... they are too self absorbed and dumb to even save their sorry ass....

malayamuda, its ALWAYS a case of Mahathir vs everyone and he always seem *think* he is always the right one.

As of now, he's so determined to topple Pak Lah because he's bloody afraid Pak Lah will open up more skeletons from mahathir's era.

Pearls said...

Daniel,

Wait a minute.... If Mahathir is afraid of Badawi bursting his closet full of skeletons, dont you think Mahathir would have suck up to Badawi's ass, no matter how disgusting it might look and err... Ok, I wont say..??

Mahathir is a very clever and cunning person who knows what to do for the good of himself. Going against the numero uno is the most unclever thing to do to hide skeltons.

Wake up la!! Mahathir is already 82years old! What is there for him to hide anymore? What is there materially for him to claim that he has not claimed in his whole 82 years of life? He is already at that stage where he has complete the full circle of life (well, nearly..) and is most probably at peace with himself, getting ready to meet his maker and all.. Why do you think he is doing what he doing? He got nothing else better to do izzit?

Think again, an 82 years old man who never give himself an excuse to fumble and miss out in what life has to offer.. is not someone you can understand easily.

You might think he is a real Lucifer and you are all geared up to condemn and stone him to meet his maker but ask yourself if you are in his shoes, would you have done it any better? Would you have been more righteous, fair, just, blah, blah, blah, all that says GODLY? Would you? I dare say I won't. I am being frank...

So, don't simply feel all so gungho and righteous about condeming Mahathir when you dont have a blinking idea what it is like to be him sitting on that chair managing millions of "children"(as in the citizen of Malaysia who mostly have the maturity of 5 years old) for 22 tiring years!

Yah, I like that old man.. I think he has done a tremendous good job.

Unknown said...

If that is the case, good for Mahathir to leave umno and retire peacefully once and for all. Then if he has already led a full life, he should just sit still and let the predecessor that he himself choose continue whatever he left of.. Knowing Abdullah, he is not the same character as mahathir, so i doubt he would act like how mahathir did.

I had my full support and admiration for mahathir but not until he started going ding dong in abdullah's era. In Mahathir's tenure too he imposed a gazillion rules to make sure everyone follows his ways and now even after stepping down he is still doing that endlessly. I say enough is enough, just let pak lah do his job.
