向巫统呛声的最佳时机 This is the best time to re-negotiate with UMNO

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib had pointed out in public that UMNO would have meetings with other BN component parties at least once a month to obtain opinions of non-Malay voters through BN components parties. With that said, I had also issued a statement in Chinese newspapers on 17th April.

In the statement, I said that although there are recognition by UMNO leadership the importance of non-Malay votes, they are still concerned for the lost of Malay votes during the election. During this period, MCA should grab the chance to deliver the voices of non-Malay voters to UMNO and want them to ensure that these voices are prioritized.

I think Datuk Seri Najib has openly urged BN, especially UMNO to ensure that they acquire the support from non-Malay voters and this shows that in the past, UMNO’s arrogant attitude has started to wake up from its dream. Of course I welcome Datuk Seri Najib’s statement and decision because UMNO leaders have finally understood that non-Malay votes are not guaranteed in BN constituencies, especially in mixed areas.

Before the 12th General Election, BN has viewed mixed areas as safe constituencies because the past results in these areas had always been positive. Because of this, a lot of UMNO MPs and state assemblymen overlooked the concern and care to non-Malay voters, especially in education, religion, and fund allocation for cultural activities (these funds can only be obtained through Chinese-based political party and Chinese Associations). This time’s election result has shown that the anti-government wave broke through the tradition of safe mixed areas. In the 53 BN mixed areas, we’ve only won 12 seats and non-Malay votes became the decisive factor.

I believe that the major defeat in mixed areas has caused UMNO leadership to wake up and therefore, UMNO leaders have started to pay more attention to non-Malay votes. As a MCA grassroots leader, I hope that MCA leadership will grab hold of this chance to sincerely and effectively reflect Chinese voters’ dissatisfaction and requests to UMNO. This will ensure that MCA and UMNO’s future cooperation to meet the expectation of Chinese voters.

Therefore, when Malaysians has started to walk towards a multiracial politics, BN has to compete with Pakatan Rakyat. BN must use their performance to gain rakyat’s votes and their consent. In consequence with that, the first step towards a multiracial concept is to treat requests and needs from non-Malay fairly.

So far, I never see any UMNO leaders except PM responsible for the lost.

This is a bad culture inside the BN. Many UMNO leaders still holding the minister position except Rafidah. I think some of them should step down, I do not believe BN has no compatible candidates for the minister position.

I do not expect anything new from BN. Even though there is, they only respect the vote we have, not the diginity we have.

Dear Dr. Chua,

I would not fully agreed with you, but i would say let wait and see. Because NATO(No Action Talk Only) is no used. Action say louder than word.

Dear Doc;

It is a fact that MCA has not been running as an equal partner of UMNO in BN. The Chinese perception is that in the BN, UMNO is the lord and all the other component parties are mere hangers-on. MCA ministers in the cabinet are always seen as voiceless, toothless and powerless to carry out the reforms they think should be carried out, lest they incur the wrath of the bigwigs in UMNO. Once in a while, a MCA minister may have the guts to voice out his comments on certain malpracitices in the government, but alas, no sooner can the voice get louder than it is subdued by severe tongue-lashings from UMNO. The results of the GE2004 made the situation worse and UMNO leaders more arrogant. Mohd Ali Rustam even had the audacity to tell UMNO component partners ( sorry, should be hangers-on) to go and fly kite, as he said UMNO could form the government by itself! In the face of the onslaught of UMNO arrogance, MCA was preceived as a helpless party, reduced to playing the role of a welfare officer. To make the situation worse, the Chinese community viewed the ' quiet diplomacy' stance bandied about by MCA as a sign of weakness, a confirmation that MCA had become irrelevant. But thanks goodness for GE2008, the boorish and loutish attitude of UMNO has finally come home to roost. Can UMNO change and be more accomadating to its partners' voice? I have to take that with a ton of salt!

There is an article in RPK's Malaysia Today with the title ' Marginalisation of These Specialists: MCA To Blame?' wirtten by Malaysia Specialist Abroad. You should read it as it lends credence to what I've said above. It is also expecially relevant to you as you were former minister of the MOH. I hope the article could enlighten you and those leaders in MCA.

The fact is how Malaysia is going to move forward? We have a sleeping PM who promise big but cannot deliver. Then, we have a PM in waiting who is born with silver spoon in his mouth and once have a party-boy image.

Negotiate with Umno? Every one in Umno has personal interest. Everyone takes the opportunity to lash out at MCA once there's a chance to gain political points.

If you try to nego wit President, well..he is sleeping. You try to nego with the DPM, he wants his support amongst his Umno members so to show he is the boss, he takes the opportunity to gain points.

I would say this...maybe it is far fetched....team up with others so we are not blackmailed.

You never negotiate until you are ready, otherwise you lose all negotiation power.

Unless Umno can prove that everyone is equal under the Malaysian sun,BN component parties can bark all they want. What's there to negotiate with all this Ketuanan here, Ketuanan there. If BN did win big in GE-12, they will churn out the same crap that the rakyat is with them and agree with their policies. All I can see at this moment are polices taken by PR which had direct positive impact in our daily lives in just 30 days after Mac-8. If BN can do better I see no reason why the rakyat do not support BN come GE-13.

It doesnt take a smart one to figure it out why UMNO is mighty anxious about Malay support for them. Of course it has nothing to do with anything but the fact that if the Malays dont support them, there will not be an UMNO! And if there is no UMNO, there will not be opportunities for these UMNO buggers to potter about in this plenty of pots of gold country! Duh!

In fact, if I may add, all these ketuanan Melayu fiasco is a direct spin from UMNO to frighten and bully the malays into supporting them!

As for best time to renegotiate with UMNO pertaining to the rights and issues concerning non-malays, well, I seriously dont think there will be any best time. To begin with, till today, UMNO has kept harping on the fact that they, UMNO, has been fair and just. It is so annoying and infact, it is beginning to sound like some chanting to me! Fair and Just to other race by whose definition? UMNO's? Bollocks!

If such is the attitude and thinking of UMNO, how do you seriously think that UMNO is sincere in making things right with other race? A meeting every month with other component in BN doesnt qualify anything near that. The fact remains that if the other races want to be respected, these other races will have to do ALL the right things including not taking crumbs thrown at them!

Only tiny Malaysia ..with 25 million populations...find it so difficult .to unite the 3 major races. China with 1.5 billion people and more than 25 major races....can unite within 30 years.
Good politics should be for two simple sides to choose..by the voters...the old fashioned one..or the modern one..like Republicans and Democrates in USA.
Here.. Mahathir can even divide his own race...the Malays....then..into have and have nots..playing race and religion politics...to rojak the country..then control the police and judges...to start his con jobs.
Again...the problem with MCA..is playing "mind their own business"....as if..UMNO owns Malaysia.
I think MCA have deep rooted to be ..a very selfish and cunning political Chinese party...so much so....party member can play each other out ...with the lowest kind of stunts..to force one.. to resign.
This is shameful....and we Malaysian Chinese...will never be proud of MCA. It is a dead party......mark my word.

Objectively we ask ourself, how many parties does Malay has representation and how about Chinese in BN. Malays have only Umno yet Chinese have Gerakan, Mca and Supp. We Chinese are one fragmented lot. The more fragmented we are, the more easier others can control us.

We negotiate only when we are UNITED. I think it be good idea to get the NGOs, Trade Associations, Clans and all other Chinese based parties to have one voice and one call. It is a long shot but if we don't start now, we will never begin. Then Umno will take notice of us.

Real problem is we Chinese don't respect ourselves and continue to be divisive, how on earth are we going to negotiate with others?

Hello Doctor Chua,
Today after a swing of Malay votes to the oppositions, UMNO only begins to address the need of paying attention to the non Malay votes in order stay in power but when tomorrow comes they have won back the Malay support, what do you think UMNO will then treat MCA? It will be back to square one, MCA will be treated like a DOG!(Whether you like it or not, this is an undeniable image MCA has projected itself to the vast majority of the Chinese - an UMNO running dog)
After 50 years of "DOG" experience with UMNO,its time to get OUT!!!UMNO is playing racial politics and its no place for MCA to be there. IF MCA still has any self dignity left and is true to its commitment to serve the Chinese & others, the best place for MCA is to pack with PAKATAN RAKYAT.

Best time to re-negotiate with UMNO.Do you think UMNO will be fair to other races, with the ketuanan Melayu.Ketuanan Melayu means they are the boss and the other races kuli.If only UMNO can change and be fair to all the rakyat in education, employment, economy and treat MCA as equal partners.Maybe then they will be relevant, if they still contiune to do the keris act, asking we to balik China, don't need MCA to win votes, etc.
Surely next election we will see BN as the opposition.

In politics, you just cannot say MCA, you team up with Pakatan Rakyat. You are nothing but a running dog. But while you have your own identity, you can also have friendly competitors. So long as all of the Chinese, irregardless of PR or BN say things under one breath, do things seen as together and most importantly to be seen as a potential threat to leave and rejoin, that is good enough. We do not subscribe to any form of subservient blackmails.

To merge some parties take a lot of guts, sacrifice and dignity. In politics, that is simply not possible. There's face issues, fundamental issues, forefather groundwork, feelings etc etc to consider.

Chinese can unite starting by some cultural activities. All clans, NGO s, political foes, trade associations and friends alike gather together for some publicity is good starters. That way, it is not a slap for any party but it is a way where all Chinese celebrate together.

All the names calling does not help the real situation at hand. It does show venting anger and frustration but it does not solve our Chinese problems.

If we Chinese do not help ourselves, who else would help us?
And I think now is the best time to start all these. PR and BN all want to show that they are for the people, not necessarily for the party. If Lim Guan Eng can offer a post to Lim Kah Choon, why Chinese Cooperation is not possible?

BTW, I do not belong to any party and I don't even know how to read Chinese but I am proud to be a Malaysian Chinese. Let's save our race. Do not allow this race be broken into fragments so that others can take advantage of it.
